A great smile is a sign
of happiness and good dental health. Everyone deserves a great smile.
Denture
A removable appliance replacing missing upper or lower teeth. The
full denture replaces all the teeth in an arch. The partial denture
can replace one or more teeth in an arch
Today's skilled dentist combine the artistic
and architectural elements of re-constructive dentistry to create
solutions that duplicate the look and colour of the patient's original
teeth to deliver the most genuine smile possible.
Among these are acrylic or cobalt chrome dentures
of superior fit and colour that are every bit as life like as there
own porcelain teeth. Dentures can restore function and appearance
in the mouth as well as the surrounding facial tissue. If several
teeth can be saved then dentures may be made to fit over the roots
of these teeth. This is referred to as over denture and functions
to preserve the bone and greatly increase denture stability. There
is no greater satisfaction than not being able to distinguish between
prosthetic and the original teeth.
Root Canal (Endodontics)
What is a Root Canal?
In the center of your tooth there is an artery, vein, and nerve.
When an infection occurs, the artery, vein and nerve must be removed,
and the canal sterilized, filled, and sealed
This is a procedure by which the nerve inside
the tooth and its canals are removed after an anesthetic has been
given. The tooth is then disinfected, dried and filled up with a
non reactive sealant. Root canal treatment is done when there is
an infection inside the tooth caused by decay or trauma. A root
canal can also be done as a necessity before restoring a broken
tooth, for cases of gum disease and in some cases of cosmetic surgery.
Why do I need root canal therapy?
Because the tooth will not heal by itself. Without treatment, the
infection will spread, bone around the tooth will begin to degenerate,
and the tooth may fall-out. Pain usually worsens until one is forced
to seek emergency dental attention. The only alternative is usually
extraction of the tooth, which can cause surrounding teeth to shift
crookedly, resulting in a bad bite. Though an extraction is cheaper,
the space left behind will require an implant or a bridge, which
can be more expensive than root canal therapy. If you have the choice,
it's always best to keep your original teeth.
Periodontics (gum
disease)
This is a progressive inflammatory disease of the gums and the surrounding
tissue around the teeth. This is the main cause of tooth loss over
the age of 30.
There are many different types of bacteria in the average person's
mouth some of which are able to cause gum disease. As the number
of bacteria increases around the teeth in the form of plaque or
tarter, usually due to poor hygiene, the amount of toxins produced
by the bacteria builds up.
The toxins penetrate the gum and cause inflammation which is the
mechanism by which the body uses to fight of anything foreign to
it. This will then cause the gum to detach from the tooth causing
a gap that is called a pocket. There are different stages (early,
moderate and advanced) of the disease and it can be localised (affecting
one or a few teeth) or generalised (affecting all of the teeth).
There are surgical and non surgical therapy for gum disease.
